More than 1,000 people took to the streets of Falmouth on Friday 7 August for the annual Pink Wig Mermaid March, raising more than £23,000 for the Mermaid Centre at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
The event began with a welcoming reception before participants took to the streets of Falmouth in a sea of pink, walking in support of everyone affected by breast cancer. Celebrations continued after the march with a silent disco, giving supporters the opportunity to come together, reflect on the cause and celebrate the incredible community spirit that makes the event so special. This year was particularly significant as, for the first time, men were invited to take part, making the event more inclusive than ever and recognising the wider impact breast cancer has on families, friends and loved ones.
Participants of all ages came together for a day filled with fun, fundraising and community spirit, united by a shared commitment to supporting patients receiving care through the Mermaid Centre.
All funds raised from the event will help the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity continue to enhance services, treatment environments and support for patients and their families at the Mermaid Centre.
Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who took part in this year’s Pink Wig Mermaid March. ” Seeing so many people come together in a sea of pink was incredible. Every person who took part, volunteered or donated has helped make a real difference to patients and their families.”
This year was especially exciting as we welcomed men to join the march for the first time, reflecting the fact that breast cancer affects not only patients but also their loved ones and support networks.”
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the event possible, including participants, volunteers, sponsors, prize donators and supporters. Their generosity and enthusiasm helped make the event a tremendous success.
