Riders from across the country came together on 19th September to embrace Pedal 4 Patients 2024 – Tour de Kernow.  They were helping to make a difference to the people of Cornwall across Royal Cornwall Hospital, West Cornwall Hospital and St Michael’s Hospital.  The event saw 25 cyclists of all ages and abilities unite to pedal their way through 200 miles of Cornwall’s countryside (and beaches at one point!).

Cyclists had regular refreshment and refuelling stops of flapjacks, cheesy crackers and even small pasties and a particularly delicious lunch was hosted en route by Pendennis Shipyard.

The challenge finished with the cyclists sweeping into Royal Cornwall Hospital on day three to a hero’s welcome with freshly baked cakes, non-alcoholic bubbly, P4P medals and a crowd of their friends and family waiting with hearty cheers and homemade banners.

So far, over £35,000 has been raised for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity and total continues to rise.

RCHT Charity’s Lynne Lees said ‘The energy, enthusiasm and generosity displayed is truly inspiring.  Once again Pedal 4 Patients has brought together a diverse group of people with one goal and their achievement as a team is incredible.  We cannot thank our riders and their supporters enough’.

The event was made possible by the generosity of safety riders and local companies Sustrans, Lifestar Medical and Keir Construction who were integral with safety, logistics and technical back-up.

With support from fundraising events such as Pedal4Patients RCHT Charity can buy advanced equipment, provide better healing environments, enable specialist training and support critical research. RCHT Charity is working to enable staff at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals to diagnose and treat patients faster and help loved ones feel more comfortable.

Fundraising Manager for RCHT Charity, Karen Murrish, said ‘in the fourth year of running P4P it is still an honour to share the challenge journey with our participants. From the point of registration through to finish line, the highlights and challenges are all part of what makes the event such an all-round experience – lifelong friends and lasting memories for one and all!’
