The Cove Cancer Fund, part of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, has received a generous donation of £7,899 from NFU Mutual Central Cornwall to fund the purchase of a specialist Pilates Reformer machine. The equipment will enhance the Centre’s therapeutic offering by supporting patients with tailored Pilates exercises to build strength, improve mobility, and aid wellbeing during and after cancer treatment.
The Cove Cancer Centre provides vital support for people affected by cancer across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, offering a wide range of services to complement clinical care, including counselling, complementary therapies, and physical activity programmes. The new Pilates Reformer will enable the Centre’s physiotherapist to offer more targeted rehabilitation, helping patients regain confidence and physical resilience at a time when they need it most.
The donation from the NFU Mutual was made through its national ‘Agency Giving Fund’, which empowers local NFU Mutual agency offices to support causes that matter to their communities. The Central Cornwall agency nominated The Cove Cancer Centre in recognition of its profound impact on local families affected by cancer.
Mark McCaffrey, Specialist Physiotherapist at The Cove, said:
“We’re incredibly grateful to NFU Mutual for this generous donation. The Pilates Reformer will make a real difference to the lives of our patients, offering a safe and effective way to rebuild strength and support recovery. Many people tell us how important it is to feel proactive in their treatment journey, and this equipment will give them another powerful tool to do just that.”
Richard Young, Agent and Group Secretary at NFU Mutual Central Cornwall, added:
“The Cove Cancer Centre is a lifeline for so many people in our community. We’re proud to support their work and hope this donation will help more patients benefit from specialist care that enhances both physical and emotional wellbeing during an incredibly difficult time.”
The Pilates Reformer is expected to be installed and available to patients later this year.
