Fantastic fundraising group, Forever Days

Posted on:

Let us introduce you to the incredible Forever Days fundraising group!  The late, Jason ‘Jay’ Day, along with his daughter Tia, started the group after Jay was diagnosed with terminal bladder, prostate, and lymph node cancer in April 2021. Forever Days mission is to support both The Headland Unit and The Children’s Cancer Fund.

A giant cheque for £2,729.80 being presented to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity by fundraisers from the Forever Days charity.

Friend and fellow fundraiser for Forever Days, Charlie Orpin says: “Jay, in his last months of life, being inspired by what he had seen during his time in the hospital, wanted to do anything he could to help the nurses of the cancer wards for their incredible work and care. He was moved by the strength and courage he saw in the children facing their own battles with cancer.

His aim was to set up a fundraising group that would run on and on, providing funds for these people to be give them something that otherwise wouldn’t be possible. Whether this be a day out / trip for patients / staff or to improve the working environment for the nurses. Jay and Tia were hugely active in promoting this dream, setting up, and helping to set up many different events before he sadly died on the 16th August 2022.”

Charlie explains further: “The donation of £2729.80 is a combination of efforts: Mrs Chris Findon from Tregella Guest House had a coffee morning, there was also a huge skydive by Lee Findon and Matt Carpenter (a very nervous pair!) back in October 2023, plus 3 fantastic Code Red Drum and Bass nights held at The Basement Bar in Newquay, with thanks to PJ Print Newquay, the team at the venue, the DJ’s and everyone one who has come to support the nights. After a long pause the idea now is to keep Forever Days going and to keep Jay’s mission alive and to carry on through his daughter Tia.”

Amy Aucott from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity explains: “We have also received a wonderful donation of £4,500 from The Tavern Inn, Newquay, raised from their TavFest. On a sunny day in May 2022, the Tavern turned into TavFest, with face painting mermaids, BBQ, music, raffle, plus a surprise appearance by Newquay-born singer James Morrison!

The two donations will be split between The Headland Unit and The Children’s Cancer Fund. The combined donation total is an incredible £7,229.80! This donation will help us to do more and is both a meaningful tribute to Jay Day, and a vital contribution to the on-going work of our charity.

Here at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity, we have incredible fundraisers who support us, to everyone involved in the Forever Days donation, a massive THANK YOU from us all.”
